Church of San Bernardo

From the primitive building, only its Plateresque-style façade remains. It was in this place that Santa Teresa de Jesús founded a convent at the end of the 16th century at the request of the then Bishop Don Álvaro de Mendoza. Managed since 1581 by the Carmelite nuns, it was since 1592 an establishment and place of retreat for the Bernardas, who arrived in the capital from the town of Torquemada. Declared a Historic Artistic Monument in 1941, the church displays on its façade an image of San Bernardo endowed with great realism and flanked by two shields with lily vases. For a long time, it was the place where the city's residents venerated their patron saint, the Virgen de la Calle.
