Pilgrimage of San Marcos

Every April 25 Palencia commemorates the festivity of San Marcos with a massive pilgrimage in the Parque del Sotillo, in the vicinity of the Carrión riverbank. This singular celebration was always preceded by the traditional "Rogatives" with which the neighbors implored the help of the rain for their fields. Today, thousands of people gather at the place to enjoy the fair booths, carousels and other attractions. Among its main attractions stands out the tasting of a popular caracolada and the holding of a contest of dishes made from these mollusks in which different prizes and awards are distributed.
